Try It Tuesday: Coconut Palm Sugar

If you have not tried this, coconut palm sugar is my new favorite way to sweeten my dishes! Dr Oz calls this stuff the "Best New Sugar Alternative" and I can certainly see why. The taste is certainly sweet, but not overbearing like refined sugars. It's more of a lighter type of sweet.

This sugar is derived from the coconut palm tree and is a bit more nutritious and lower on the GI index scale. It contains a fiber called Inulin which actually slows glucose absorption! Coconut sugar also contains Iron, Zinc, Calcium, & Potassium along with a chain of fatty acids and antioxidants.

However, you do not want to eat much of it because like any other sugar, it tends to be higher in calories.

I purchase this stuff in my local commissary, but you can find this sugar in whole food & fresh markets on a regular basis.
