Try It Tuesday: Herbs to Boost Milk Supply

For this edition of Try It Tuesday, I decided to share with you the top 2 herbs that stimulate breast milk production. As I have discussed before, I do plan on breastfeeding for many reasons. Sometimes, though, if we are not careful, our bodies will actually halt or decrease the amount of milk that we supply. There are tons of foods you can eat to boost your supply, but if you want supplements in particular, here are the three most popular ones that can be found at your local pharmacy, Walmart, and GNC stores.

Fenugreek
This is perhaps the most widely known herb for stimulating the production of breastmilk. Most motheres usually notice an increase in milk production after 24-72 hours within taking this herb. It stimulates the mammary glands because it contains phytoestrogens which are plant chemicals similar to the female sex hormone estrogen.

Mother's Milk Tea
When I worked at GNC, postpartum mother's swore by this stuff and would buy it by the SHIPMENTS! This tea contains anise, fennel, and carraway-other herbs that have been linked with milk production-and makes a great addition to taking Fenugreek. Also, who doesn't love a nice nightly tea? I know I do! This can be bought at your local GNC.
