Stop Letting Motherhood Dull Your Sparkle

I did not plan on writing this blog post today. It sort of just happened.

I was reminsicing today about my very first dates with my husband and how I used to get dolled up all the time. I wanted to look my very best so I put on the cutest outfits, make up, did my hair up, and even shopped for sexy lingerie. The point is-I put so much effort in how I looked and my appearance because it was important to me to look good for him.

Since becoming a mom, my days are filled with messy hair, a bare face, pajamas (because I work from home-this is SUCH a plus though!) or an outfit with this morning's spit up on it.

Why the sudden change? Because I don't have time.

Bullshit. I have time.

I guess some days I feel so drained and tired that I simply don't feel like looking my best for my husband.

Not only do I raise my son from home, I also work from home.
I do laundry, dishes, sweeping, mopping, and cleaning the home.
I make dinner every single night.
I try to spend time with my husband when he comes home.
Then I try to fit in "me time"

Don't get me wrong-I love all that I do! I just used all of these as excuses as to why I look the way that I do. However, they are just what they are-excuses. And you all know how I feel about excuses!

I took a long hard look in the mirror. I decided that I wanted my husband to come home today to something beautiful. Not saying looks are what's important. But, I want to light his fire and remind him why he chose me.

I took off my pajamas and actually put REAL clothes on.
I put a little blush, eyeliner, and mascara on-very minimal.
I even fixed my hair! Holy cow!

All of this maybe took 5 minutes or less. And the results? I looked like I actually cared about how I looked. And because of this, I wowed my husband without really even trying that hard.

It's the littlest of little things, ladies. Men are simple creatures.

As women, we tend to get overwhelmed with the daily tasks that life brings that we forget to take good care of ourselves. Whether it's children or a career that's keeping you busy, we need to remember to take a few extra minutes out of the day to look great for our husbands. We put everyone ahead of ourselves, but its totally okay to put ourselves first, for once-at least every now and then.

Remember Lucille Ball and how she always looked fabulous? Women of the 1950's had it right! They knew how to make their men smile when they walked through the door boasted "Honey, I am home!" Don't get me wrong-you don't have to go all "Stepford Wife" on your husband. Just add a little something extra.

Also, although I am not the most spiritual person out there, there are references in the Bible in which God teaches us, as wives, to be emotionally, spiritually, AND physically pleasing to our husbands-and that does include taking care of ourselves to delight the man in our lives, as mentioned in Ephesians 5:22: "Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord"

I'm not saying you have to go out and buy expensive jewelry or clothing or go get hair or eyelash extensions, but take some delight in how you look. If you never or hardly wear makeup, put a little blush and lipstick on. If you've had the same look for a while, go to the salon and get a makeover. Buy a new outfit! Start working out-take care of your body and cherish it. Surprise him! Wow him!

The man you married deserves the best version of you-beauty inside and out! Remind him why he married you and show him how much confidence you have. In the end, he will be happy, but you will be even happier too!
